DC 4. Juli Parade Here is a chance to show your American and German pride at the same time! Walk in the DC Independence Day Parade along with fellow German speakers and celebrate the 4. Juli in style. The group will meet on Wednesday July 4th at 8:00am (**Time may be later - waiting to hear from Park Police when we can go into security perimeter!!! Check day before parade for updates**) at the security entrance to the National Mall at the corner of 7th and Madison Streets, SW. Then the group will walk in the parade on Constitution Avenue from 7th Street to 17th Street carrying a large American Flag. The parade concludes at the corner of Constitution Avenue and 17th Streets, NW between 2:00 and 3:00pm. Everyone gets a t-shirt for participating and feel free to RSVP with friends as well! If you have any questions you can e-mail me at CelebrateAmerica@gmail.com. Some notes about walking in the parade: - Many streets are blocked on the 4th and parking is scarce, so we ask everyone to take Metro to L'Enfant Plaza. The closest exit from the station is the "7th Street/ Maryland Ave./ Smithsonian Museums exit." Walk north to the security area located at the entrance to the National Mall at the corner of 7 th Street and Independence Avenue, NW. (Located between the Air and Space Museum and the Hirshhorn Museum.) - All coolers, backpacks, packages and individuals will be subject to inspection as you enter the security checkpoint. Prohibited Items include: glass bottles, firearms and other weapons, fireworks, alcoholic beverages, personal grills, barbeques, and other open flames, canopies or tents. - Chances are that it will be VERY hot on the 4th of July. Please bring enough water to keep you hydrated for the duration of the parade. Dress for the weather in comfortable clothes (we will provide a parade T-shirt) and wear comfortable shoes. Don't forget sun block, sunglasses, and hats. Thanks! Michaela Bench
