SHOUT! Art by Women VeteransSwords to Plowshares will be hosting the 2nd annual SHOUT! Art by Women Veterans this March 17 & 18 in celebration of Women's Military History Week.
The fact remains that women veterans face very real obstacles --raising children while serving, coping with PTSD and military sexual trauma, and transitioning to civilian life among other things. Swords is proud to host this special two day engagement to honor women veterans and bring together community members to collaboratively work to better serve this increasing population.

Listen to "Musow - For Our Women" by Bassekou Kouyate and Ngoni Ba ÂTo all the rock Ân rollers of the USA, IÂm coming in February, 2010!Â
ThatÂs Malian maestro
Bassekou Kouyate with a heads-up well worth heeding. A virtuoso picker and musical visionary whose work blurs the lines between West African and American roots music, Bassekou has jammed with Bonnie Raitt and Bono; won praise from Eric Clapton. HeÂs also dug into blues and country music with Taj Mahal and created freewheeling improvisations with banjo maverick Bela Fleck. BassekouÂs instrument, the ngoni, is a Âspike lute and an ancestor of the banjo, sharing its taut-skinned drum body, percussive attack, and varied picking techniques. Since 2005, Bassekou has led Ngoni Ba, the first-ever group built around not one but four ngonisÂall played by members of his family. The groupÂs second CD "I Speak Fula" was released on Sub Pop in February of 2010 (preceded by a digital release via iTunes in December Â09) on the occasion of BassekouÂs first U.S. tour as a headliner.
This tour is presented in collaboration with World Music Institute and is funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts.
