The Longridge Restaurant
The Longridge Restaurant in Longridge near Preston is the flagship restaurant of celebrity Lancastrian chef Paul Heathcote. Freshly refurbished, the 19th century cottage overlooking the Ribble valley is now smartly up to date inside, with luxurious décor inspired by the Renaissance. The palette is black, grey and cream with studded leather banquettes, original artworks, and heavy linens and velvets. It was here that Heathcote made his considerable name and the modern British menu still produces dishes to thrill the palate. It’s been called a neighbourhood restaurant with a deserved worldwide reputation and quite right. Frequently-changing menus include the six course Longridge Experience with matching wines.

Duk’s is not your average pea in the pod, that’s for sure. Tucked inside a converted basement beneath a couple of post-clubbing takeaways on Lancaster Road, it’s Preston’s quirkiest bistro. Duk’s raison d’etre is to give you the world on your plate. Not that that means a huge carbon foot print – far from it. As much as possible is sourced from local suppliers. All dishes are tapas, so you can savour the Mediterranean to Peru and beyond in one night without bursting (mind you, portions are generous, so order in moderation). Sundays at Duk’s are a hit with a difference - your choice of Peruvian roast (lamb, chicken, beef, duck) – which you carve yourselves - with a heaps of garlic, rosemary potato, honey roast veg, and a large jug of home-made red onion gravy from £12.50. Nice.

Teppanyaki cooking is all about theatre. So Preston’s Sakura has focused in on the dramatism of their signature dishes to create a funky, high style restaurant with a buzzy, bar feel. Inside you’ll find two stunning levels decked out in thoroughly modern Japanese style – paper lanterns hanging over low dark wood tables and a bright, welcoming bar area. The best seats in the house are undoubtedly the stools which line the teppanyaki. Here you’ll be able to enjoy the spectacle of your dinner being not only cooked but flipped high while flames leap in the air in front of your eyes. In addition to the teppanyaki dishes you’ll find a selection of sushi, sashimi and noodle dishes plus great value set menus.
