Kitley House restaurant near Plymouth is set in a 500-year old country house hotel overlooking a lake. Sumptuously antique without being stuffy, its décor is burgundy and gold with marble pillars and wooden floors. The modern British menu changes throughout the week and is packed with seasonal, organic and exclusively local produce from Devon & Cornwall. Try kicking off with garlic mussels in a herb crust, then bring on the tender duck breast, whose entourage includes mille-feuille of rosti potato, spiced red cabbage, fine green beans and a thyme jus.
