Doug Scott CBE - A Crawl Down the Ogre
This is the story of the first ascent of The Ogre (23,901 ft) by Doug Scott and Chris Bonington in July 1977. The Ogre is situated in the Karakorum mountain range, North Pakistan.
Doug and Chris reached the summit on July 13. The ascent of the summit block required very difficult rock climbing.
The descent was an epic as on the first abseil from the summit Doug broke both legs at the ankle and during the next eight days descent to base camp, a major storm raged. They were, however, able to reach base camp but had a long wait for assistance.
The Ogre is considered one of the hardest climbs in the world and it was 24 years before there was a second ascent.

An entirely original work from Hartlepoolâs very own Peopleâs Theatre, bringing the Seven Deadly Sins into a contemporary context.
This not-to-missed performance is a thought-provoking, innovative and entertaining portrayal of the sins, and how they are still prevalent in modern society.
Drawing on a pool of talented writers, performers and directors, The Peopleâs Theatre return to the Town Hall for the first time since last yearâs astonishing production of the cult classic A Clockwork Orange.
With adult themes.
