Linking to the museums’ natural history collection, this photographic exhibition looks at the inherent parallels between natural history specimens and photography.  Visitors may recognise that specimens are ‘locked’ in time, but a photograph is often seen as a moment in time. The specimens are our mirror on nature, just as photography is often seen as our mirror on the world. Here John Tunley’s carbon pigment prints connect with that earliest art form; cave paintings.

In the 1970s, following a successful career in photo-journalism, Paul moved to rural Derbyshire with his young family; from this point on he made only photographs that were personally relevant to him. Paul has used landscape, family, wildlife, pets and other immediate elements in his environment as the subject matter for a continuing personal odyssey.

This special exhibition will lift the lid on the filming of 'The Duchess' and will also feature a number of costumes from the film. Visitors will also be able to see parts of a replica floor that was made to protect the Marble Hall floor during a ballroom scene, as well as many behind the scenes photographs of the filming process.
