Bandar Lampung can be reached by plane. It takes you just 40 minutes from Jakarta to Lampung. The airport in Bandar Lampung is Branti airport. It is only used for domestic flights.

Flights are to and from from Jakarta only. The airlines flying are Srivijaya (4x daily), Garuda Indonesia (twice daily) and Merpati Nusantara (daily). Average cost 30-35 USD one way.

From Lampung airport you can take pre paid taxi to the city. There is a taxi counter which lists the various destinations with the pre paid rates.

By train

Traveling by train will only take you to Palembang because Lampung is the southernmost region in Sumatera island. There are only few passenger trains. Most trains are used to transport coals in Lampung.

By car

There are several travelling services which offer transportation using medium-sized car. This service is available at scheduled times and they will drop you not at the car pools but at a certain point that you wish such as a hotel or a house. The car can carry up to 10 people at one time depending on the capacity of the car.

By bus

Lots of traveling services also transport passengers using buses. One of them is DAMRI public transportation. Their station can be found at around Jakarta's main train station, Gambir complex and Tanjungkarang train station. Tickets are available at nearby lockets. Traveling by bus takes about 7 hours.

By boat

First you need to get to Merak port at Banten province which can be reached in around 1.5 hours from Indonesia's capital city, Jakarta.

Ferries stand by in 24 hours to bring you across from Merak Ferry port to Bakauheni port back and forth, while speedboats only operate during daytime. Ferries can carry up to 20 vehicles and 200 passengers at one time but speedboats can only carry passengers. It takes about 1.5 to 2 hours to cross Sunda Strait, the strait which lies between Sumatera and Java island.

From Bakauheni port to Bandar Lampung takes about 2 hours traveling by vehicles, preferably cars.

Getting around in Bandar Lampung is very easy and relatively inexpensive because it is a small city. Traveling between the 2 largest towns, Tanjungkarang to Teluk Betung will only take about 30 to 40 minutes by car.

By Angkutan Kota

Angkutan Kota or abbreviated as Angkot or Oplet is actually a car, usually either a Daihatsu Carry or Toyota Kijang, with the interior re-designed to give more space for passengers to seat. By doing this, an angkot can carry up to 11 people at a time. Angkot is used as a mode of transportation in most of the cities in Indonesia. Different routes can be easily recognized from the color of the car. You may not want to bring anything valuable when traveling by angkot because pickpockets are very common. When you are ready to get off, you can tell the driver "Stop Kiri" which means stop at the left side.

By Ojek

Ojek or the Motorbike taxi is the omni present mode of transport which is present in most of indonesian cities. Although a little expensive than Angkot, it gives the advantage of a totally personal conveyance. You can find the ojeks on most of the crossing across the city. If you would like to go around the city or places around the city, an Ojek can be hired for full day or based on destination. As always, don't forget to bargain for the price.
