Alfred restaurant just two steps from Paris' Pont Mirabeau in the 16th arrondissement has all the charms of a brasserie of the 1900's yet feels young and vibrant. There is no throw-back, faux antique decor, just smart comfortable seating, white table linens, an eclectic array of artworks, handsome waiters in long white aprons expertly wielding tire-bouchons everywhere at once. There's a decked terrace out front hidden from the street by potted greenery -- makes you feel as if you're by the sea. The menu under the direction of JM Vetier is a simple, elegant list of French classics and innovations made from the freshest ingredients, like scallop carpaccio with lemon olive oil, grilled steak with bearnaise or pepper sauce, and profiteroles au chocolate. The shortish wine list is expertly chosen. Fabulous Sunday brunch.
