Departing for the Azapa Valley, you'll visit archaeological sites with artistic and cultural manifestations of pre-Hispanic cultures, demonstrated in the many geoglyphs and petroglyphs. Visit Atoca and Cerro Sagrado where the Aymara Indians often carried out their rites to Pachamama, the earth goddess.
Continue to the Pukará de San Lorenzo, the ruins of a defensive pre-Inca fort. Upon arrival at the Archaeological Museum of San Miguel de Azapa, you'll have the opportunity to examine the important pieces of ceramic, textiles and tools of the ancient cultures, as well as the famed mummies of Chinchorro, which exceed 5,000 years of age.
