Tikal is nestled in the dense jungles of the Peten region of Guatemala. This site has been extensively excavated and restored and is probably the most recognized of all Mayan Ruins. At the start of the Classic Period, Tikal went to war with neighboring Caracol and was defeated. Many carved monuments and temple survive.
Guides accompany the road journey to and from the site as well as provide fully guided services while at the site. A hot local lunch is provided.
